Stormwater Harvested from Permeable Pavements as a Means to Save Potable Water in Buildings

نویسندگان

چکیده

The main objective of this work is to analyse the potential for potable water savings in university buildings by using stormwater collected from permeable pavements. Six located on campus Federal University Santa Catarina (UFSC) were selected obtain monthly consumption patterns and parking lot areas. same six then evaluated considering their location eight different cities Brazil, with rainfall patterns. Simulations computer programme Netuno run each building city combined. structural design pavements was also assessed two methods available literature, that is, American Association State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Brazilian Portland Cement (ABCP). hydrological-hydraulic pavement carried out. designed thicknesses compared obtained Permeable Design Pro. between 18.4% 84.8% obtained, depending city, non-potable demand considered. For design, both similar; however, it observed AASHTO method better represents model. Regarding differences show simplification performed drainage favour safety. In conclusion, use harvesting systems promising, aligning aid, capacity saving water.

Potable water as a source for legionellosis.

Several lines of evidence have been examined in attempts to implicate potable water as a source for legionellosis. Success has been mixed. The strongest evidence has been the similarity of strains recovered from patients and from potable water and the cessation of outbreaks following institution of measures to eradicate Legionella from potable water systems. Epidemiologic efforts to identify th...

Using Permeable Eco-paving to Achieve Improved Water Quality for Urban Pavements

This paper describes the planning, design and construction of a permeable pavement as a practical demonstration of the benefits of eco-paving in Australian environmental management. The paper addresses the use of permeable pavements as part of a Water Sensitive Urban Design that allows infiltration of stormwater, reduction of pollutants and slow reticulation of the stormwater to an ecologically...

Factors Influencing Stormwater Mitigation in Permeable Pavement

Permeable pavement (PP) is used worldwide to mitigate surface runoff in urban areas. Various studies have examined the factors governing the hydrologic performance of PP. However, relatively little is known about the relative importance of these governing factors and the long-term hydrologic performance of PP. This study applied numerical models—calibrated and validated using existing experimen...

Coupling GIS with Stormwater Modelling for the Location Prioritization and Hydrological Simulation of Permeable Pavements in Urban Catchments

Permeable Pavement Systems (PPS) are an alternative to conventional paving systems that allow water to filter through their layers instead of running off them. They are structural source control Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS), which can contribute to reducing increased flood risk due to the combination of two of the greatest challenges with which cities will have to deal in the future: urba...

Biological warfare agents as threats to potable water.

Nearly all known biological warfare agents are intended for aerosol application. Although less effective as potable water threats, many are potentially capable of inflicting heavy casualties when ingested. Significant loss of mission capability can be anticipated even when complete recovery is possible. Properly maintained field army water purification equipment can counter this threat, but per...
